Partnering for Vaccine Equity

Equity in Vaccination

In support of the Immunization Services Division’s (ISD) overall mission to protect individuals and communities from vaccine-preventable diseases, the Partnership and Health Equity Branch (PHEB) improves vaccine access, confidence, equity, and demand through funded partnerships.

PHEB’s approach to this work is guided by the following four overarching strategies: 1) funding partners to improve vaccine access, confidence, equity, and demand, 2) providing funded partners with the support needed to help achieve immunization goals, 3) monitoring and evaluating funded partner activities to inform program improvement, and 4) raising program awareness and demonstrating program impacts.

In 2021, CDC launched the Partnering for Vaccine Equity (P4VE) program. The P4VE program funds national, state, local, and community-level partners to improve vaccine equity for groups that experience disparities in immunization, with a particular focus on racial and ethnic communities. These organizations played a critical role during the COVID-19 emergency response and now support broader vaccination efforts, including influenza, RSV, and the commercialization of COVID-19 vaccines (Bridge Access Program).

Program Vision

Through the Partnering for Vaccine Equity program and broader immunization efforts, CDC aims to improve equity in immunization across disproportionately affected populations, including racial and ethnic minority groups, through partnerships that drive community-level action.

Stories from the Field

Read featured stories from the field to learn what our partners are doing and the successes, challenges, and lessons learned from their work.

Partners are focused on different activities, such as:

  • Engaging trusted messengers who are promoting vaccine education and outreach through culturally and linguistically appropriate messaging
  • Building bridges between communities and vaccination providers and opportunities
  • Understanding and mitigating vaccine misinformation
  • Understanding effective strategies and interventions to increase vaccine confidence, access, and uptake in communities

In addition to funding, CDC provides technical assistance, guidance, and communications to partners to support their efforts.
