Last month, my colleagues at APLU and I officially released the final report on Modernizing Scholarship for the Public Good: An Action Framework for Public Research Universities; you can access the final report here: https://lnkd.in/gH9dhYPW
The Modernizing Scholarship initiative offers guidance to public research universities on ways that they can support scholars to advance public impact research and other forms of public engagement, with particular attention to the ways that diversity, equity, and inclusion are integral to this work.
The report contains several elements:
1) Opportunities for Strategic Action: This section describes the results of a review of the research literature around institutional change. It presents eight major areas for strategic action, as well as accompanying tactics that may be appropriate in a change initiative, depending on the campus context and prevailing cultures (there's also a database for more details on these!).
2) Illustrating Strategy and Process: This section contains detailed case studies of public research university initiatives that dramatically changed policy, practice, and culture on two campuses.
3) Towards Implementation: This section describes existing resources and future APLU efforts to further develop, generalize, and popularize the outcomes from this body of work.
4) Key Learnings: This section outlines ten takeaway lessons and ideas that we learned from change-leaders across higher education in the process of developing Modernizing Scholarship for the Public Good.
I’d love to hear your thoughts about the content of the report!!
