April Dynamic Discussions: Effective Communication and Outreach- Issue and Crisis Communication
May 23rd, 2024 2:00 - 300 PM ET

Within days of Oregon announcing a confirmed case of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza and detection of the invasive emerald ash borer, OSU Extension activated internal issue management teams. The teams include subject matter experts, communicators and leadership and focus on coordinating public outreach and education efforts, in alignment with agency partners.

This approach brought the right people, knowledge and skills together to support rapid, accurate information dissemination to the public.

We’ll share our experience and lessons learned with examples and case studies. Together, we’ll discuss how to support and contribute to proactive, coordinated, cross-discipline issue and crisis communication in an Extension context. Please come prepared to share an example of your own. You’ll leave inspired to take a next step for you and your team to be better prepared for the inevitable.

Presenters:
Jennifer Alexander, Director of Communications and Marketing, Oregon State University Extension Service

LeAnn Locher, Statewide Master Gardener Outreach Coordinator, Oregon State University Extension Service

Dan Stark, Extension forester and assistant professor of practice, Oregon State University Extension Service
